God's Kind Of Rest

It's been a while since I last posted entries here.  Lately, I have been experiencing a certain level of tiredness which didn't make sense at first, since work has not been that "chaotic" (I only have around 3 kids enrolled at the Daycare Centre), so it was manageable and yet, I would come home so exhausted and weakened. Didn't have the energy to do household chores and other things, like play with Gabby, blog, etc.  I said Halt! This cannot go on any longer. Then I remember God's word in Hebrews 4:10-11 that tells us how to find rest. As we enter God's rest, our weariness from human labor ends.  We've known rest to be physical in aspect only, as we work or labor, we usually try to find our own rest by taking a day off, spending a day in spas, going on a vacation, etc., thinking these could refresh us and make us feel better. While I agree that our physical body needs break from work from time to time, I now understand that it could only do us good to a certain extent. And only God can give us that incredible sense of tranquility and peace that no spa nor vacation could give us, that ease and blessed quiet for our souls. As we look up to Him and come to Him to seek for it, He gives it as He promised in Matthew 11:30. So that's what I did. Looked up and prayed. Wow! Father, thank you!

Matthew 11:29-30 (The Amplified Bible)

29Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

30For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good--not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

My Inspiration

One of my favorite moments with Gabby is when both of us are all cleaned up just about ready to hit the bed. It is a relaxing time when we can talk about how our days went, about funny things, what we expect to do the next day, etc. We cuddle, giggle and sometimes tickle if we still have some energy left. It’s also a time when we get to pray together and say our “I love You’s”, no matter how short or long the conversation is, or even a warm hug or a loving kiss makes it meaningful. Here’s one of those nights that makes me want to do more in life and continue living.

The Bee Movie

Gabby and I had fun watching the “Bee Movie” from Dreamworks Production, the same movie outfit that gave us Shrek, Madagscar, Sharktale, Over The Hedge, and more. The movie is full of living and vivid colors of red, yellow and green that kids will surely enjoy. It depicts the importance of respecting and preserving the balance of nature and the innate qualities and function every man and every living creature on earth are born with. And that we need each other in order to thrive and survive in this world. Anything that we do, big or small, has a significant effect to other living creature and the world. Benny B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld) is on a quest to sue humans for making his fellow bees slaves forcing them to produce honey for commercial use.  He is a smart bee who aspired to be different and is determined to alter the course of his life which in the end, took a toll on nature. His adventure begins when joins an air squadron of pollen collectors and takes to the skies above Central Park. Along the way, he falls on mishaps and finds his crush (Renee Zellweger) who will help him sue those humans stealing their honey. It is a bee-dazzling movie reminding the children not to kill the bees for they too, have a purpose on earth!

Click To Give Free Books

In conjunction with my D*E*A*R post, I am promoting the “Literacy Site” in the hope of uplifting Literacy rate in the world. I believe that literacy is the solution to poverty as it opens doors of opportunity and understanding that no other skill can provide. It is only through reading, writing and understanding that a level of communication is achieved hence, make a huge difference in every life. Without these abilities, communication, which is the key to progression, will fail.

At the Literacy Site, you will be able to help fund books for educating children around the world. With a click a day, you can help fight the spread of illiteracy, and change the world for the better.  It’s just a click away!

You can also pass this on to your friends to create awareness and help out children around the world become literate.

 World Literacy Facts*:

·  Over 780 million adults in the world are illiterate.

·  64% of the world's illiterate are women.

·  Nearly 60 per cent of the estimated 113 million children who do not attend primary school worldwide are girls.

· On average, nearly one in three children does not complete 5 years of primary education, the minimum required for acquiring basic literacy.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who!

This is the latest movie from Dr. Seuss’ Horton classic collection, Horton the friendly elephant comes to the rescue again in the movie “Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who.” The story evolves around a speck Horton found, and with his sensitive ears, is the only person who can hear the pleas for help from the world of Whos, a minuscule world so tiny that it fits on a speck of dust. Horton, upon knowing that their existence depended on him, made it a mission to ensure safety and preservation of their life. Of course, his friends and other characters in the movie cannot comprehend that there are indeed living beings in a speck, as for them, it is just a speck anyway!   Twists and turns made the movie more exciting, as his enemies tried to get rid of the speck. Horton fought for it with his life for he believed that every living creature, big or small, have the right to thrive, be respected and valued.  As the tagline of the movie goes “A person is a person, no matter how small.

Do It The Dirt Devil Way

Have you noticed how tremendously hot our climate has become today ? Call it Global Warming? Right. We and our children will be in great danger unless we take part in preventing possible destruction of our earth. Though small, tiny steps can make a difference, I believe that in the face of the situation that we are in today,  bigger and bolder steps are indeed needed to make bigger and bolder impact to curb global warming. So, I suggest we start from our own houses. Since one of the solutions is to cut carbon emissions 2% each year, I encourage everyone to choose energy-saving and efficient appliances or equipment i.e. compact fluorescent light bulb, new technology heating ducts, or energy efficient vacuum cleaners. Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners use AccuCharge Technology. A high-efficiency charging system that saves you time and money while keeping your house clean and the environment pollution free and green! Nothing beats 70% reduction in energy consumption, only cordless Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners do that. The first cordless vacuum products that is Energy Star approved. They have wonderful products that suit your every need, Stick Vac, Hand Vac, bagless, for cars, for allergies, cordless, for pets and a lot more. Cleaning will never be the same again. No more tangling long wires, plugging and unplugging. No more worries of high electric consumption. Go ahead. Do it the Dirt Devil way!

MOVIE FAVORITE OF THE WEEK

I had a post recently about how too much television could make our child dumb. Though if utilized in a regulated and appropriate way, television could be used as an effective tool to educate children. So I make sure that Gabby watches the right and suitable movies and cartoon programs with my guidance. So I thought of sharing with you what we (Gabby and I) have watched and why we like it. Sort of a preview or a review of good films and programs. Come back soon and feel free to leave a comment on every post or post your own personal favorite on your site. Just don’t forget to buzz me so I can check it out too!

D*E*A*R

D*E*A*R is the acronym for “Drop Everything And Read” program launched in Gabby’s school July last year. It was a result of the successful Book Fair held in the school as part of its endeavor to equip its students with every means possible for them to succeed in life. With the “DEAR” program, the families are encouraged to hold a “DEAR” session one night per week where we are encouraged to read together at the same time and in the same room, using a variety or reading materials: books, newspapers, magazines, internet articles, and picture books for young children. Research shows that children develop an enthusiasm for books and are more successful in school when their parents actively engage them in the fun of reading.

I’d like to share with you some hints on how to get started:

  • Set home goals for reading and put them in writing. You may post it on your refrigerator.
  • Decide together which night to set aside for your reading time.
  • Make reading a daily routine.

I highly recommend this program to mommies out there. I’ve seen this worked for Gabby as her development in reading and love for books was in leaps and bounds eversince we started our DEAR session. Try it and see how it works for you!

Sarah The Fighting Fish

Sarah, Gabby’s new pet fish, is a Siamese fighting fish. It has a specialized breathing organ that enable it to breathe oxygen from the atmosphere. That is why we got her, (remember Gabby has a very small rectangular aquarium so there’s really no space for an oxygen motor) we can keep it without the need for water oxygenation. Fighting fish can be found with a range of color variations, the most dominant colors are red and blue. While the most common fin shape is the veil tail – long flowing tail fins that look like satin sheet smoothly moving in the breeze. These describe Sarah, a blue veil tailed fighting fish. Welcome Sarah!

First Day At Work

Hellloooo! I had two full days at work. Last Monday was turnover day and briefing from the LPAP director. First task was to prepare a summary of projected weekly and monthly expenses, provide a list of needed supplies for replenishment. Was also able to find time to read the operations manual and study the files and data there. I already have a system in mind to be implemented. One of the greatest challenges I am facing now is to get more children to enroll this month. I need to find 32 kids who will avail a monthly package or at least a weekly package to be able to sustain operations and cover for our overhead expenses. So I have to design a marketing strategy  to make it happen, but not that day. Gabby and I left LPAP 15 minutes past 5pm last Monday because we went to SM to meet her dad who promised to buy her other stuff for school. The mall was already packed with shoppers for the coming school opening but will tell more about it on my next post.

So going back to our topic, Tuesday was as full as the previous day. I started the day with a staff meeting to lay down  and reinforced rules and procedures and my expectations from them. Afterwhich, I begun transferring raw data to a file in my laptop so it is easier to work with i.e. assorting, updating, listing, etc. Thanks to this technology, it makes our life easier and more organized. At 6pm, I took Gabby home, had a shower, then off again to an empowerment seminar. It was so enriching I couldn't stop talking about it with the other participants. Until I realized it was already getting late so I hurriedly went as I was already missing Gabby. LOL! After work today, I will be in a marketing strategy meeting with the LPAP team. It will be a full full day again, for sure!

New Job For Me

Tomorrow is the start of my new job as a Manager of Lifeline Parental Assistance Programme or LPAP, a 24-Hour Daycare Centre in Paranaque. LPAP aims to help hardworking parents have peace of mind while they are out there working for their family. The Centre provides the following qualified and caring staff: English Speaking Nannies, In House Nurse, round the clock Security Guard and Teachers. It also endeavors to revolutionalize and uplift the status of Nannies in the Philippines. The Nannies in the Centre are highly trained to provide first aid and professional childcare. Unlike regular daycare centers, LPAP has physical and mental enrichment programs and activities to ensure continuous education of the children. It is equipped with age appropriate educational toys and books. The child-friendly facilities of the Centre consist of the Reception Area, Main and small play area, Preschool, Library, Sleeping Room, Kitchen, Toilet and Bath, Garden and spacious Lawn for physical activities, among others. Shuttle services are also provided for parents/kids from Alabang (where call centers are located and where most parents work) to LPAP everyday, round trip.

As a Manager, my duty is basically to oversee the whole operation, making sure that the children are safe and are receiving proper care from the Nannies and that the Nannies are performing their jobs well. It also involves training the staff, marketing and budgeting. By the way, the centre is just a 4-minute drive from my house (it takes 5 minutes if traffic is bad. LOL!). My shift is from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. I am sure to bring Gabby with me during my shift, this way I get to work and have a fix income without being away from her. Then I can still blog on the side (for that needed) extra income. Perfect!
